Dr. Sylvia Munsen- Artistic Director, Cantate Choir Co-Director
Sylvia has degrees from St. Olaf College and the University of Illinois and is a certified Kodaly specialist and masters level Orff-Schulwerk specialist. She has been appointed Professor and the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Endowed Chair for Elementary Arts Education and brings more than thirty years of success as a conductor of and clinician with children's choirs. Her choirs have performed throughout the US for prestigious regional and national conferences and have conducted concert tours to Canada, the Czech Republic, and Norway. She has conducted more than forty-five honor and festival choirs including all-states and a festival at Carnegie Hall.
Jill DeVilbiss- Assistant Artistic Directore and Cantate & Concert Choir Co- Director
Jill has degrees from Utah State University in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy, and Choral Education. She has completed all three levels of the Kodaly Course for Children’s Music and all three levels of Orff Musicianship Training. She teaches music at Edith Bowen Laboratory School.
Merrilee Broadbent- Cantate Choir Accompanist
Merrilee Broadbent started playing the piano when she was 3 yrs. old, accompanying in the first grade, and gave her first solo recital at age nine. Since that time she has played for musicals, oratorios, operas, All-state choir, All-Northwest choir, competitions and many small ensembles and soloists. She has been an accompanist as well as a co-director with the Cache Children's Choir for many years and is glad to be part of such a great organization.
Melody Francis- Concert Choir Director
Melody is a graduate of Utah State University and certified public school teacher. She has completed all three levels of the Kodaly Course for Children’s Music Education and level 1 of Orff Musicianship Training.
David Gilbert - Cadet Choir Co-Director
David graduated from Utah State University in Piano Pedagogy, and Elementary Education. He also received his Kodaly Certification at Brigham Young University. He is an active member of the Utah Music Teachers Association, teaches fourth grade at Heritage Elementary School and enjoys teaching piano.
Kristine Gilbert - Cadet Choir Co-Director
Kristine graduated from Utah State University in Vocal Performance. She also attended Brigham Young University where she studies cello and was granted the first chair seat in Brigham Young's Symphony Orchestra and traveled with the orchestra to Europe. She has studied voice with Bonnie Slade, Michael Ballam and Cindy Dewey. She has song with the Utah State University Chamber Singers and has also performed with the Utah Festival Opera Company. She has also studied music education with Dr. Jerry Jaccard and visiting experts from Hungary. She will complete the Zoltan Kodaly Music Education Certification course in 2013. She teaches voice, cello, group music literacy classes for teens and adults, and is a member of the Organization of American Kodaly Educators.
Kathryn Hadfield- Caprice Choir Co -Director
Kathryn Hadfield has been involved in music her entire life. She played the flute in the Sky View Band program, plays the guitar and enjoys singing. She has a degree in Home Economics Education from USU. She is married to Randy Hadfield and they are the parents of 6 children and 6 grandchildren. She loves being involved with teaching music to children and working with the great people in Cache Children's Choir.
Genet Brown-- Caprice Choir Co-Director
Genet has been involved with C.C.C. for over 15 years. She has a degree from Utah State University in Elementary Education with a minor in music. Genet has completed all three levels of the Kodaly Course for Children's Music. She co-developed the preschool program for C.C.C. along with co-producing a companion booklet and CD. Genet enjoys singing and plays a variety of musical instruments.
Katrisha Jensen- Cadenza Choir Co-Director
Katrisha has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement from Utah State University with a Minor in Music. She enjoys working with children and is also an excellent musician. She is an experienced singer and also plays the cello, piano, and various small wind instruments. She enjoys performing and choir directing.
Jenny Garlock - Cadenza Choir Co-Director
Jenny has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University. She has worked with and accompanied for choirs and musicians at the high school and college lever, but especially enjoys working with children. She has taught piano for over eighteen years. Jenny also enjoys composing and arranging music.
Leslie Timmons-Education Coordinator
Leslie provides Orff Schulwerk music and movement instruction for the choir. As Associate Professor in the Music Department at Utah State University she is responsible for the flute studio and Elementary Music Education courses and is flutist with the flue/clarinet duo AirFaire and faculty wind quintet Logan Canyon Winds. She is a clinician for Orff teacher education workshops which she has given across the country and in Haiti, Guatemala and in the Netherlands.
