Dr. Cindy Dewey, head of vocal studies at Utah State University Music Department, will be our guest artist. Cindy Dewey is head of the voice and opera programs at Utah State University where she has taught for the last 13 years.  Before moving to Utah Dr. Dewey ran both the graduate and undergraduate voice programs at West Virginia University.  She holds three degrees in voice performance and a degree in Speech Language Pathology. Her area of specialty is vocal pedagogy and voice science research. She has just established a voice science lab at USU and is one of the first voice teachers in the US to have a Phonatory Aerodynamic System to study airflow and air pressure rates in singing.

Dr. Dewey’s students have won many awards and competitions, including first prizes in national competitions.  Her students have sung at the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Opera, San Francisco Opera and elsewhere.  Dr.  Dewey is also an active performer.  She was the soprano soloist with Dr. Craig Jessop’s American Festival Chorus in performances of Mozart’s Requiem and Orff’s Carmina Burana last year, and she will be performing as soprano soloist in the March 27, 2010 performance of Haydn’s Creation with AFC.
Dr. Dewey is chair of the 2010 National Association of Teachers of Singing national convention which will be held in Salt Lake City July 2-6, 2010.  She is currently president of the Northern Utah Chapter of NATS and has held position as state governor of this organization in both West Virginia and Utah.
